You should not do something just because you can. Likewise, when you run a live training session or webinar there are some mistakes that you should avoid to ensure that your webinar does not become useless. You should not repeat the same mistakes a lot of marketers make such as unmuting attendees, running for too long, and taking too long to teach one single subject.
You can unmute the guests that attend your live webinars. This is advisable if you have a guest speaker or panelist, but the average attendee may either not be able to speak in audio or they have no microphone to use to speak. They may also have their microphone set up in the wrong way or they simply don't know anything. You should not unmute someone just because he or she has attended your webinar session. Just the same as speaking on-stage, you won't just hand the microphone randomly to someone in the audience. The reason for this is that you are not sure of what they will say or whether what they say will be worthwhile.
Another mistake that most webinar marketers make is running their webinars for a long period of time. Don't say that your webinar is going to run for only one hour and end up taking 5 hours, you will most probably bore your attendees by the time you reach its close. You should instead try and make your webinars run for about 60 to 90 minutes only. This is usually the length of time that a movie or a TV show takes. If you run your webinars for a longer time than that, you will most probably bore people or make them leave. You should also rely on your audience. For example, at the start of your webinar you can ask your attendees to type in "ready" to ensure that they are all ready or you can also have them answer a survey. If you realize that none of your audience is answering the survey, then this shows that they do not care about what you have to tell them. Simply move on if you find that no one is completing the task that you have asked them to complete or they are not answering your survey. We have all found ourselves in that situation where your audience is not paying attention to what you are saying. The best thing to do in such a situation is simply move.
Lastly, don't take too much time on one single subject. It is very easy to spend a lot of time addressing someone's off topic question especially if your audience is live. Decide on the amount of time you want to put into a question that has been asked by one of your audience.
Avoid all these mistakes and your webinars will run more smoothly and be more successful compared to your past webinars.
